Orthodontics For Children
When considering orthodontics for children, it’s important to note that every child develops differently. A good rule of thumb is to have your child evaluated by an orthodontic specialist around the age of 7. This is the time when their first permanent molars and incisors have often come in and it is a good time to evaluate crossbites, crowding and other possible issues.
Dr. Fortney understands that treatment needs are evaluated early, she can help guide the growth of the jaw and guide incoming permanent teeth.
Early treatment can also regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, gain space for permanent teeth, avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions, reduce likelihood of impacted permanent teeth, correct thumb-sucking, and eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems. In other words, early treatment can simplify later treatment.
