Meet Board-Certified Orthodontist
Dr. Christy Fortney

Expertise

Creating fabulous smiles is Dr. Christy Fortney’s passion! She has practiced orthodontics at Hidden Valley Orthodontics since 2001 and has over 30 years of experience under her belt. Her experience in the oral healthcare field began at her father’s oral surgery office, where she assisted in various disciplines of dentistry before deciding to attend dental school.

In addition to active practice, Dr. Fortney lectures locally and nationally to teach fellow orthodontists and  orthodontic staff about obstructive sleep apnea, Invisalign® treatment, practice efficiencies and the newest technologies in orthodontics. She is a member of the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO), the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics (PCSO), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the American Board of Orthodontists (ABO).

Education

Dr. Fortney’s formal education includes a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Loyola Marymount University, a general dentistry degree from Northwestern University, and a dental residency at Ravenswood Hospital in Chicago. She completed her specialty degree in orthodontics from the Children’s National Medical Center.

In 2006, she was honored to receive her Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, which is the highest distinction achievable in the field of orthodontics.

Board Certification

Board certification is a distinction awarded to the top, most-skilled orthodontists. It’s a unique achievement that only 1 in 3 orthodontists achieve by completing a thorough written examination and care-oriented clinical examination. Additionally, board-certified orthodontists must go through certification renewal every 10 years to maintain their certification status.

Dr. Fortney is incredibly proud to be a board-certified orthodontist providing care in Escondido and San Marcos. Her certification status places her at the intersection of excellence and clinical expertise.

Why Orthodontics?

Wave Divider Yellow

Orthodontics is at the intersection of science, aesthetics, and human connection, which is why Dr. Fortney chose it as her dental specialty. From early on in her training, she was drawn to the way orthodontics transforms how people see themselves and interact with the world. From smiling more in photos to talking confidently in large groups, she sees firsthand the many positive effects of a straighter, healthier smile.

Treatment Philosophy

Creating a warm, welcoming environment from day one is one of Dr. Fortney’s specialties. She’s also known for holistic, minimally invasive care – only recommending treatment when absolutely necessary for patients of all ages. She believes in clear communication, providing compassion to everyone, and changing lives through smiles.

At Hidden Valley Orthodontics, Dr. Fortney celebrates progress every step of the way. The ultimate goal of her women-led practice is to have every patient leave each appointment feeling happier and more confident than when they arrived.

Outside the Office

Dr. Fortney’s family is her other passion! She and her husband, Jeff, have two boys, Jake and James, who keep her grounded. They take time to golf as a family when they can. Jake is currently at the University of Utah School of Business and James is a Senior at Del Norte High School, currently evaluating his college decision. Thanks to her own experiences as a mother and seeing the growth and development of her children, she understands the concerns and questions parents have when choosing a healthcare provider.
